Happy Pink Saturday/Craft Day with Girlfriends!

My friends Maria and Gail and I (and sometimes my daughter Megan) like to get together to craft on days when we're not working and create! Yesterday we did just that! Gail had discoverd a company called Dharma Trading company (http://www.dharmatrading.com/silk_scarves.html) where you can buy many different types of scarves and dyes and make handmade scarves! Below are a couple examples of what we made! I showed the steps to make the PINK scarf below. First Maria stamped on a design she liked (Paris theme) all over the scarf with rubberstamps and permanent ink. Then you soak it for 20 min. in a mixture of vinegar and water, then tie knots (or not) and then cover your work surface, and mix up the dye solution in the bottle and just squirt, squirt, squirt! Then put it in a plastic Ziploc, and put it in your microwave for two minutes, but WATCH it! It could burst! Everytime it bubbles up high, stop the microwave and let it deflate. After the 2 minutes, take it out and rinse it, and undo the knots and let it dry and VOILA you have a beautiful scarf made by YOU! What do you think?!!! It was a lot of fun! Thanks Gail for having us over to your home and for dessert too! Suzie

  5. Hi Susan! I used to work for a Dallas artist who did this. :) She's a fabric artist who mostly quilts. When she goes out to teach, she brings handmade scarves with her for her class.

  6. Thanks, Susan! I don't have an Etsy, yet. But that seems like a really good place to put up my stuff. I've been meaning to forever, and since I'm renewing my efforts to be self-employed, now is a good time. :)

  9. WOW Suzie ~ the pink scarf is really lovely! TFS how you created it, maybe I need a microwave afterall hahaa! To answer you ivy question on my Magpie's Nest, it IS very forgiving and thrives on neglect even. When it gets long you can cut pieces and root them in water and have another plant or just leave some in water! :)
